ALASKA MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY SENDING ANONYMOUS TIP ABOUT MISSING WOMAN HE IS ACCUSED OF KILLING
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An Alaska man has been charged with first-degree murder after investigators say he anonymously tipped police to the location of a missing woman whose body was later discovered beneath a staircase.
According to the Anchorage Police Department, Mikhal Murphy, 35, was arrested in connection with the death of Mildred “Millie” Paddock, 64.
Police said Murphy submitted an anonymous tip in April stating that Paddock’s body could be found beneath the stairs of a home where she had been living. Acting on that information, investigators searched the residence and found human remains in a crawl space beneath the staircase. The remains were later identified as Paddock.
Authorities said Murphy and Paddock had known each other for approximately 25 years and had lived together for about a year before her disappearance.
According to charging documents, investigators allege Murphy killed Paddock and later attempted to conceal the crime. Police also allege he used Paddock’s financial accounts after her death, including making purchases and cash withdrawals.
Murphy has been charged with first-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, misconduct involving a corpse, identity theft, and theft, according to court records.
The investigation remains ongoing.
