OREM, Utah — Donald Trump Jr. attended a court hearing Monday for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of fatally shooting political activist Charlie Kirk during a rally at Utah Valley University in 2025.

Robinson appeared in court for the start of a weeklong preliminary hearing, where prosecutors are expected to present evidence supporting multiple felony charges, including aggravated murder.

Kirk was shot and killed on Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at a rally on the university’s campus in Orem. Authorities arrested Robinson following a multi-day manhunt after investigators said members of his own family began to suspect he was involved.

Also present in the courtroom were Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, his parents, and Robinson’s parents.

Before the hearing began, the Kirk family released a statement saying each court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of Charlie Kirk’s death and the lasting impact it has had on their family. They also expressed gratitude for the support and prayers they have received since the shooting.

Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012. Following his death, Erika Kirk assumed the role of chief executive officer of the organization.

The preliminary hearing is expected to continue throughout the week as the court determines whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
