Former Eric Adams Chief of Staff Frank Carone Charged in Federal Bribery Case

NEW YORK, New York — Frank Carone, the former chief of staff to former New York City Mayor Eric Adams, has been arrested and charged in a federal bribery case tied to a lucrative migrant shelter contract.

Federal prosecutors allege Carone used his position and influence to help secure a city contract for a Queens hotel that would be used to house migrants. In exchange, prosecutors claim Carone received more than $100,000 in payments connected to the deal.

According to the indictment, city social service officials had previously determined the hotel was not suitable for use as a migrant shelter. Despite those concerns, prosecutors allege Carone intervened on behalf of the hotel’s ownership.

Carone is charged alongside his brother, Anthony Carone, hotel owner Yan Po Zhu, and hotel employee Crystal Chen. All four defendants pleaded not guilty during their court appearances.

Prosecutors allege approximately $120,000 in payments were funneled through Anthony Carone’s law firm as part of the scheme. The indictment also accuses Frank Carone of obstruction of justice, alleging he deleted messages after learning he was under investigation.

Carone’s attorney denied the allegations, arguing that prosecutors have not presented evidence showing his client improperly influenced government decisions.

The charges are the latest development involving individuals connected to former Mayor Eric Adams’ administration. Adams is not accused of wrongdoing in this case.
