MEMPHIS WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER ALLEGEDLY SHOOTING MAN FOUND HIDING UNDER DAUGHTER’S BED

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman has been charged with first-degree murder after police say she fatally shot a man who was found hiding under her daughter’s bed before he was allegedly shot while leaving the home.
According to court documents, Kendra Scott, 36, is charged with first-degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony in the death of Rodderius Morton.
Memphis Police responded to a shooting at a home in the 3000 block of Travis Road, where officers found Morton suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of his head near the front porch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Scott told officers, “I saw a dude under my kids’ bed, and I did what I had to do.”
A neighbor told police they heard loud banging before seeing Scott standing in the yard holding a firearm and repeatedly saying, “I shot him, I shot him.”
According to investigators, a juvenile witness told police Morton had been invited into the home through the back door around 1 a.m. The witness said Scott arrived home approximately 30 minutes later, loudly knocking on the front door and demanding to know who was inside.
Court documents state the juvenile told investigators Scott had previously warned that if she ever found a boy inside the home, she would “put a hole” in him.
Police said Morton was discovered hiding beneath a bed in the juvenile’s room. As he left the residence, he and Scott allegedly argued on the front porch before Scott fired a single shot.
Investigators said Morton was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
Scott is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court.
The case remains under investigation.
