ROOMMATE TESTIFIES CHARLIE KIRK MURDER SUSPECT SAID HE ‘WISHES HE HADN’T DONE IT’
OREM, Utah — New testimony presented during the preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk, alleges that Robinson admitted to the killing shortly after it occurred and later expressed remorse to his roommate.
During Tuesday’s court proceedings, prosecutors played a recorded investigative interview with Robinson’s former roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs. According to Twiggs, Robinson returned to their apartment following the Sept. 10, 2025, shooting of Kirk at Utah Valley University, where he broke down emotionally, cried, and told him he “wishes he hadn’t done it.”
Prosecutors also introduced text message exchanges between Robinson and Twiggs as evidence during the hearing. While portions of the interview and text messages were presented in open court, other sections were either redacted or shown only to those inside the courtroom.
Twiggs further testified that Robinson had asked to borrow an engraving tool in the months leading up to the shooting. According to his testimony, Robinson said he wanted to engrave bullets for what he described as a family camping and hunting trip. Prosecutors presented the testimony as part of their effort to establish a timeline leading up to the shooting.
Robinson, 23, faces aggravated murder and several additional charges in connection with Kirk’s death. He has not entered a plea, and the allegations presented during the preliminary hearing have not yet been tested before a jury.
The purpose of this week’s preliminary hearing is to determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial. It is not a determination of guilt or innocence.
If the judge finds probable cause, Robinson will stand trial in a case that prosecutors have indicated could be eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while appearing at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University. His death drew national attention and prompted a multi-day manhunt before Robinson was arrested and charged.
Additional witnesses are expected to testify as the preliminary hearing continues.
