CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO Sue Trump Administration Over White House Access Ban
WASHINGTON, D.C. — CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO filed a federal lawsuit Monday challenging the Trump administration’s decision to revoke their journalists’ access to the White House.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges that the administration retaliated against the organizations because it objected to their reporting. The news organizations argue that the ban violates First Amendment protections for freedom of speech and the press, along with Fifth Amendment due-process protections.
Journalists representing the three organizations were denied entry to the White House complex Saturday. Their press credentials were revoked without advance notice or a formal opportunity to challenge the decision, according to the lawsuit.
The organizations are seeking a temporary restraining order that would restore their journalists’ access while the broader case moves through federal court.
President Donald Trump defended the restrictions by accusing the organizations of publishing false reporting. He argued that news outlets remain free to publish stories but are not automatically entitled to access the White House.
The lawsuit says the government cannot exclude journalists from White House access because officials disagree with their coverage. The case is now before a federal judge in Washington, where the organizations are requesting expedited action.
