Joliet Fence Crew Dismantles Newly Installed Fence Amid Payment Dispute
JOLIET, IL — A confrontation between a homeowner and a fencing crew is drawing widespread attention online after workers returned to a property and dismantled a wooden fence they said they had recently installed.
César Diaz of Diaz Fence Company said the crew returned because the homeowner refused to pay the remaining balance for the completed work. Video from the property shows workers removing large wooden sections as the homeowner watches and repeatedly tells them to leave.
The footage does not independently establish the terms of the agreement, how much money was allegedly owed or whether the project had been formally accepted by the homeowner.
Several social media posts have claimed the homeowner called or threatened to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the Latino workers. Urban Updatez could not independently confirm that claim or find evidence that ICE responded to the property.
In an account attributed to Diaz, he suggested that the homeowner may have believed immigration authorities could be used against the workers because they were Hispanic. That statement does not confirm that an ICE call was made.
Diaz also alleged that the homeowner took a chainsaw belonging to the crew during the confrontation. Urban Updatez has not independently verified that allegation.
The video has circulated widely across several social-media platforms, generating a substantial reaction to the crew’s decision to remove the fence. No official statement from local law enforcement or ICE concerning the dispute was located as of Sept. 15.
