One Shot Multiple Times, Two Others Stabbed During Violent Night in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Police are investigating multiple violent incidents that unfolded overnight Sunday, including a shooting that left at least one person seriously injured and a separate stabbing that sent two victims to the hospital.
According to authorities at the scene, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty Street and East Parmenter Street.
Investigators said at least one person was struck by gunfire and transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. Police indicated a second person may also have been injured during the shooting.
Officials at the scene said one victim was struck three to four times, and investigators recovered evidence indicating that at least 13 rounds were fired during the incident.
Witnesses told reporters they heard seven or eight gunshots before seeing people run from the area in panic. Police secured the crime scene with yellow tape, closing off the block down to Washington Street while detectives processed evidence.
The shooting occurred across from Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, a well-known landmark in the City of Newburgh.
As of Sunday evening, city officials had not released additional information regarding the victims’ conditions, a possible motive, or whether any arrests had been made.
In a separate incident the same night, two individuals suffering from stab wounds reportedly arrived at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital seeking treatment after an incident near 25–29 Galloway Street, according to reports.
Police have not confirmed whether the shooting and stabbing incidents are connected.
