Florida Couple Marries in Hospital After Groom Is Injured in Wedding-Day Crash
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida couple exchanged vows at a hospital after the groom was seriously injured in a head-on crash while traveling to their wedding venue.
Kapri DeRamus was driving to marry Tyasia Thomas on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Altamonte Springs, according to information provided by his legal team.
DeRamus suffered fractures to both arms, a broken jaw, a broken rib and a significant knee injury. The Altamonte Springs Police Department is investigating the crash.
Thomas learned about the accident approximately one hour before their wedding was scheduled to begin. She and her family traveled to the hospital where DeRamus was receiving treatment.
Instead of postponing the ceremony, the couple gathered with relatives and friends in a hospital multipurpose room later that evening. DeRamus’ grandfather officiated as the couple exchanged vows.
DeRamus was released from the hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 9. A fundraising campaign established by Thomas’ brother says the couple is facing medical expenses, lost income and the loss of their vehicle. Their planned honeymoon was also canceled.
