Jhené Aiko Returns With First Album in Six Years, “Westside Whimsy”
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Jhené Aiko released her fourth studio album, “Westside Whimsy,” on Friday, Sept. 11, marking the Grammy-nominated singer’s first full-length studio project in six years.
The 20-track R&B and soul album follows “Chilombo,” which was released in 2020 and received three Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Progressive R&B Album.
“Westside Whimsy” draws from Aiko’s Los Angeles roots and the music that shaped her, including 1990s rap, R&B and soul. The project serves as a tribute to West Coast culture while maintaining the reflective sound associated with her earlier work.
The album includes several collaborations with West Coast artists. Kendrick Lamar appears on “So Good,” Ab-Soul joins Aiko on “Love Bomb,” Tyga appears on “Like, Whatever,” Larry June is featured on “Neighbors,” and OHMA contributes to “Golden Coast.”
The album cover features a close-up portrait of Aiko against a teal background, with crystal-like tears across her face. The artwork was photographed by Danny Williams, also known as Topshelf Junior.
“Westside Whimsy” runs approximately 55 minutes and is available through major streaming services.
