
Reading Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder in 2023 Downtown Shooting
READING, Pa. — A Berks County jury convicted Vincent Sanchez of first-degree murder Friday in connection with the 2023 shooting death of Reading resident Ellis Garman.
The Berks County District Attorney’s Office said Sanchez shot Garman on July 21, 2023, near South Sixth and Cherry streets in downtown Reading.
Police identified Sanchez as the suspected shooter following the killing and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was captured in New York in May 2024 and returned to Pennsylvania to face prosecution. Contemporary reporting confirms the shooting investigation and arrest. Berks Weekly and WRAW

Sanchez faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. A sentencing date was not included in the information released.
The case was investigated by Reading Police Criminal Investigator Joshua Sheller and prosecuted by Berks County Assistant District Attorneys Rachel Louviaux and Dennis Skayhan.
