Snoop Dogg Named Host of 2026 MTV Video Music Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA — Snoop Dogg is set to take center stage as host of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards later this month.

CBS and MTV announced Thursday, September 10, that the 54-year-old rapper and entertainment icon will host this year’s ceremony, marking another major moment in his decades-long history with MTV and the VMAs.

“MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning,” Snoop Dogg said in a statement. He described returning to host the ceremony as a “full-circle moment,” reflecting on MTV’s role in giving hip-hop a national platform during the earlier years of his career.

Snoop also highlighted his reunion with longtime VMAs producer and former MTV executive Van Toffler, saying the two have a long history dating back to his early days with the network.

The hosting role adds another chapter to Snoop Dogg’s extensive VMAs history. He has received 13 nominations and won three awards throughout his career. He first performed at the ceremony in 1994 and later closed the 1999 VMAs alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem.

In 2005, Snoop participated in a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G., and his most recent VMAs performance came in 2022.

The announcement comes as preparations continue for this year’s ceremony, which will also include Nirvana receiving the Video Vanguard Award.

Madonna leads this year’s nominees with 11 nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will take place Sunday, September 27, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS and MTV, with streaming available through Paramount+ Premium in the United States.
