CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee — A part-time conductor at the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway has been fired after comments he made to passengers during a Fourth of July ride went viral on social media.

According to the railway, the employee was terminated after making remarks that the company described as using “demeaning language” while addressing passengers aboard the historic attraction.

Video circulating online shows the conductor saying, “To the very, very few Americans in here, happy Independence Day. To the rest of you, welcome to the greatest country on the face of the planet, and if you disagree, you can leave.”

The comments quickly drew widespread attention online, prompting criticism from some viewers while others defended the conductor’s remarks.

Following the video’s circulation, the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway announced that the individual was no longer employed, stating that the comments did not reflect the organization’s standards for serving guests.

The railway has not released additional information about the former employee.
