Third Arrest Made in 24-Year-Old Texas Cold Case Murder Investigation

FRISCO, Texas — A third suspect has been arrested in connection with a 24-year-old cold case murder after investigators reopened the case earlier this year.

Frisco police, working alongside the Waxahachie Police Department, arrested 50-year-old Jason Honrud on a murder warrant Wednesday. Authorities said Honrud is the husband of Lisa Honrud, who was arrested in April in connection with the 2002 killing of her former husband, Frank Weiss.

According to investigators, Weiss’ body was discovered near Lake Lewisville wrapped in black bags, tied with rope, and weighed down with 50-pound sandbags duct-taped to his legs. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later determined Weiss had been shot twice in the chest with a .38-caliber handgun.

Police said the renewed investigation began earlier this year when six detectives with the Frisco Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit reopened the case and began re-interviewing witnesses.

Investigators said Weiss was killed less than a week after his then-wife moved out of their Plano home and signed an annulment he had filed alleging infidelity. Detectives said Weiss was last seen having dinner with Jason Honrud at an Uncle Julio’s restaurant two days before his body was found.

According to police, Honrud initially told investigators Weiss had taken a last-minute trip to Cancun, a statement detectives now allege was deceptive. Investigators also said the manner in which Weiss’ body was concealed suggested an effort to cover up the crime.

Authorities have not disclosed what specific role they believe Jason Honrud played in Weiss’ death.

Jason Honrud is the third person arrested in the investigation. In May, Keith Hart was also arrested in connection with the case, just weeks after Lisa Honrud’s arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing.
