Viewers Send Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ Up Netflix Charts
UNITED STATES — Viewers have pushed Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? near the top of Netflix’s worldwide movie chart following its September 9 release.
The long-awaited sequel quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched movies worldwide and reached No. 1 in several countries, including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The film ranked second globally on September 11, according to FlixPatrol.
The film is the third installment in Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? series, arriving 16 years after Why Did I Get Married Too? premiered in 2010. The original movie was released in 2007.
The new story reunites the couples for a destination wedding in Italy as Marcus and Angela’s daughter, Jasmine, prepares to marry her fiancé, Wesley. The celebration brings the original characters and their now-adult children together as old relationship problems and new family conflicts surface.
Perry wrote, directed, produced and stars in the film. Returning cast members include Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Richard T. Jones, Lamman Rucker and Sharon Leal. Taraji P. Henson joins the franchise as Roselyn, Wesley’s mother, according to Netflix Tudum.
The first two films earned more than $116 million combined at the worldwide box office, according to figures compiled by The Numbers.
Why Did I Get Married Again? is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
